SPORTS DIVISIONS

Universities that belong to this division are the largest and most famous ones. The sports facilities of NCAA-I universities are by far the best in the country. This division is also the most competitive on the academic front. Admission standards are therefore set very high.

NCAA-II championships are less popular than NCAA-I championships. However, the top NCAA-II universities do compete against NCAA-I universities. Admission standards are usually less strict and perfectly adapted for European athletes.

This is the lowest NCAA division. Unfortunately, universities in this division cannot afford to grant sports scholarship, but they do offer great scholarships to outstanding students. Some of these universities (MIT, Carnegie-Mellon, Chicago) are actually part of America’s best from an academic point of view. If that what you’re looking for, this division is your best pick.

This division includes small universities (5000 students or less). The small number of students allows for great studying conditions as professors are usually more available. The best NAIA college programs are also recognized for reaching sports rankings equivalent to those of NCAA-I universities.

In these universities, the academic program lasts only 2 years. Then, the student athlete can join one the 4 other divisions : NCAA-I, NCAA-II, NCAA-III or NAIA. These propose the most flexible admission standards. They are therefore particularly adapted for those who wish to discover the United States, improve their skills or easily obtain course credits.
